Miami Art Deco District Welcome Center
If you come to South Beach, you might want to learn all about the Art Deco in this area. You can take a walking tour, learn the history of this type of architecture, learn about the history of South Beach and how it's intertwined with the style of architecture, or you can just stroll the sidewalks and admire the pretty buildings. Whatever your goal, you will want to make a pit stop at the Art Deco District Welcome Center on 10th Street. The center is a wonderful addition to the Art Deco district, as it provides information about the buildings in the area. The center is an act of love for the Art Deco style of architecture, run by the MIami Design Preservation League.
The Center is not just a source of information about Art Deco- it's also the starting point of several walking tours and one bicycle tour of the district. Guides-in person or on audio tape, whichever you prefer, will fill you in on all the details of every building on the tour, and you're sure to come away an expert on Art Deco. The place really comes alive in January during Art Deco Weekend. The Miami Art Deco District Welcome Center runs special boat tours during this event, so if you're there in early January, be sure to catch one.
If you love Art Deco as much as the the folks who run the Miami Art Deco District Welcome Center, visit the gift shop for some Art Deco souvenirs of South Beach Miami. Here you'll find books, posters, and trinkets from the Art Deco era, which ran from the 1930s to the 1950s. If you just can't get enough and want to take even more home with you, there's a second location on Lincoln Road where you can buy other merchandise as well as Art Deco furniture.
